ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Eltham, Jan. 21. At a meeting of the Farmers' Union, Mr. B. Dawes presiding, Mr. G. H. Buckeridge was elected secretary, vice the late J. B. Sim. The chairman's action in writing a letter of sympathy to Mrs. Sim was confirmed. The next meeting will be held early in February, at which Mr. Buckeridge has promised to explain details of the method of keeping farmers' books on the principle laid down by Mr. E. Maxwell. The Belgian Sewing Guild has spent many busy hours getting ahead of things, and the results secured since the first meeting was held, in November, 1914, show that they have accomplished something to be proud of. During that period Mrs. H. .J. Barnard has worthily upheld the position of president. Mrs. L. N. Fairhall has stuck to her secretarial duties like a Briton. Mr. E. Parrott is the honorary auditor, and from the latest statement issued it is shown that the total received by the guild was £BBO 18s 2d, and the expenditure £670 17s 2d. During the existence of the guild 5078 garments were made for destitute Belgians, and 470 eases of comforts despatched to the front. It should be mentioned that other guilds deserve the limelight of publicity, as the Mangatoki Guild has forwarded 08 eases, Ivapuni 24, and Awatuna 6, which are included in the above total.
