The promoters are already creating a stir in regard to the big gift auction sale to be held here oil Saturday, February In conversation with Messrs W. I', Kirkwood and Malone those gentlemen inlormed me tliat this is to be the annual appeal 'for funds from tl'.e district on behalf of the wounded soldiers. It is felt that one straight-cut donation from all in the district would he preferable to so many small collections, although they admit that a goodly sum has been secured by these efforts. For the February "targ%f" they hope to ring on a total of £'2ooo, and this should not bebeyund the resources of such a prosperous community. The intention is to hold a {rift auction sale, and it is emphasised that any animal will he sold straight out, although any buyer may, if he so desires, allow the auctioneer to re-submit it for disposal. The promoters are prepared to accept anything—stock, haystack, section of land, buildings, etc. It will be st en that there is a very wide range to choose from, so those who have anything likely to be turned into cash are invited to have same ready when canvassers or ill-overs are in their .locality. O'Neill gave notice to move at the next meeting: ' That the necessary steps be taken to re-organise the enginee-'s department, in order to ensure that the various engineering and public works now under way and contemplated be carried out in a more efficient manner.''
