THE OVERSEAS BRIGADE. AGITATION IN FAVOR OF CONSCRIPTION Received Jan. 18, 8.45 p.m. London, Jan. 17. In response to an urgent appeal to the Government to maintain the strength of the South African overseas brigade, a recruiting conference will be held at Capetown this month. An agitation is gaining ground in favor of conscription, but, in view of the attitude of a large proportion of the Dutch, compulsion is extremely unlikely. A Capetown message, states that General Botha has announced that for purely military reasons no further native labor will be recruited for service overseas.
