STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER.
MR. GIUTHEIE THE NEW MINISTER. REPRESENTATION AT IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. Dunedin, Jan. 12. Mr. Masaey visited Middlemarcli today. He said nothing definite had been done yet regarding the appointment of the Hon. A. L. 'Herdman to the Supreme Court bench, but probably the AttorneyGeneral would retire from politics next month. If this should eventuate, Mr. Guthrie will be appointed to the Ministry, probably taking the portfolio of land*. The question of the Dominion's representation at. the Imperial Conference had been considered' .by the Cabinet, which decided that a representative be sent, but no definite information had been received regarding the date, and the matter of Ministerial representation was still open, hut it may be necessary that Mr. Masscy and Sir Joseph Ward should attend, owing to the prominence given to colonial questions in the recent statements as to the Allies' war aims and peace terms.
