FIRES.
MR. HUGH ENSON'S HOUSE GUTTED. A LOSS OF SEVERAL THOUSANDS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Mr. Hugh Ensor's large residence on the Rakahuri station was completely destroyed by fire on Saturday. Tho fire broke out in the kitchen roof, and spread rapidly throughout the whole building. Mr. Ensor was away at the Double Hill station, in the Lake Coleridge district, superintending shearing. Mrs. Ensor was in Christchurch. Two maids and an elderly man were on the premises, and they managed to save the silver and some of the furniture. The new wing to the house, which was being "erected at a cost of about £IOOO, and was practically completed, was destroyed. The insurances arc not available, but the damage is expected to amount to several thousands.
