DISTRICT NEWS.
RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent). On Friday several soldiers on furlough were farewelled, viz., Privates Tylee, Gilhooly, Hopkins, Phillips and Harvey. Private Tylee, who had that morning joined the benedicts, was absent. Private Gilhobly was also unable to be present, so others accepted the gifts for them. During the evening, pictures were shown by Mr. Andrews, with speeches and. presentations during the interval. The chairman called upon Miss Chapman to attach the watch for Private Hopkins, Miss Heddiwick to hand Private Harvey n wallet. Miss D. Looney, in a quiet little speech, handed Private Phillips a fountain pen. Mr. James, Senr., accepted for Private ftilhooly, whilst Mr. Tylee, Senr., on behalf of his son, accepted a pipe from Kahui neighbors, who wished to join in with the Rahotuites in making a present of a hand-bag to Private Tylee's bride, and wishing them all good 'luck and a' safe return. Mr. Annis spoke on behalf of Kahui road people. Mr. A. Chapman responded for the soldiers. The hall was crowded, showing that people still wish the boys God-speed and a safe return to this land of freedom and peace.
