A CATTLE DEAL.

NEW ZEALAND AND VICTORIAN GOVERNMENTS. EXCHANGE HOLSTEINS FOR RED POLLS. "An exchange Ims been arranged between the Victorian Agricultural Department and the New Zealand Department of about 20 head of Holstein-Freisian cattle for an equal number of Red Polls," stated the Hon. W. D. S, Macdonald (Minister of Agriculture) to a Times representative. "The exchange is being made for the purpose of experimenting in the crossing of the Red Poll cattle with the grade milking breeds of New Zealand. There are some very good private herds in the Dominion, and the Government has kept a stud herd at Weraroa for experimental purposes. Twenty of these are being exchanged with the Victorian Department for the Red Poll strain, and it is expected that the bulls bred from Red Polls will be better for crossing with the grade cattle of the Dominion. The Red Polls have proved themselves nearly equal to any other breeds so far as production of niilk and butterfat is concerned. A number of the Holateins have left New Zealand for Australia, and a number of the Red Polls are expected here shortly.
