HUN VANDALISM. WILFUL BOMBING OK ART TREASURES. London, Jan. 1. Atl Tt.alia.ii semi-official message stales that in the air raids on Padua the enemy was deliberately seeking to wreck the precious art treasures of religious art. Last evening bombs were dropped on the Cathedral church of St. Anthony, the Church of the Hermits. Bomb splinters struck the Archbishop's palace and Monte di Pictas. In numbers of cases the explosions damaged old bronze doors, priceless paintings, statues in the Capelk St. George. The celebrated Titian frescoes were damaged, and parts of paintings were torn down by explosions. LAND REQUISITIONED. CULTIVATION At GOVERNMENT'S EXPENSE. mobilisation' for war industries. a great offensive expected. Received Jan. 3, 12.55 a.m. Washington, Jan. 2. Official.—A cable from Rome states that all tillable land has been requisitioned and will be distributed among the people. The Government will defray the cost of cultivation, using the produce for war purport's. The civil population has been mobilised for war industries. The continued concentration of Aus-tro-Gormans, and the massing of artillery behind the Brenta and Piave presages a great offensive.
