Mr. R. L. Mcllroy left by tbaffiftnmi last night for Auckland, whsrrbe will apend his summer vacation. The combined staffs of' the Ha were railway station assembled in tbe Bailway Hall on Thursday evening to farewell Mr. A. A. Rolfe, chief clerk, who ban ' resigned to take up fanning near New Plymouth. Mr. Rolfe has been associate cd with the Hawera office for thirteen years, and lias been in the service for over thirty years. Mr. A. Thoniaon, acting ctii»f clerk, who presided, OTWMBtcd Mr. Rolfe with a silver ontrea dish and a set of carvers as a tplsen of respect from the stall's and the local carriers. The chairman referred to the guest's long connection with the Railway Departme»t, and said Mr. Rotfe was leaving the service to better himself. Mr. Sioßfe suitably replied.—Star. <
