PUBLIC WORKS MEN FOR HARVESTING.
PROPOSAL NOT FEASIBLE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Dec. 22. The possibility of liberating public works employees for harvest was mentioned to the Hon. W, Eraser this morning, who said it was not feasible. There were only 1730 men employed on public works, and the number was steadily diminishing. He could do with another 1000 men in view of the necessities of the settlers. If the country's produce was to be got to market the'roads must be kept open.
