A memorial service for the lite Lieu£< Cecil Allison was held in {St. Cutbbert'4 Church, Mauaia, on Sunday evening. Mn..C. H- Smith, Ltmon street, Plymouth, well known in Stratford akd Eawera dietriete, celebrated hi* B?nd birthday yesterday. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., has received a cable from the Ifigh Commissioner, stating that the condition of his son, Lieutenant H. Wilkinson, is improving.
•PHvate Graham Hurd has been killed in action in France. Before emitting he was a member of the police, and was stationed at New Plymouth, and in different parU of the South Island. Word lias been received that Private E. A. Abbott, of New Plymouth, who was severely wounded a few months ago, is being invalided home and is due to arrive in New Zealand shortly. Mr. T, Mack, of Fitiroy, has received word from the Defence Department that his son, Private A. J. Mack, who left with the 11th Reinforcements, was severely wounded in the faai&ie of MmBines, is being invalided home. Mr. G. F. Robinson received word today that his son, Corporal Keith &obin-< son, whose name appeared in the oanalty lists laat week, received gunshot woondt in the left arm and left eye, and that he is now in hospital in France. Mr. James Jordan, clerk of the court and deputy registrar at Napier, a very well known citizen, has received advice of his transfer to New Plymouth. The transfer will probably take effect, early in January (says the Hawke's Bar Herald).
Mr. S. Adamson has (says the Hswera, Star) received advice that his son; private w. G. Adamson, was wounded on Decembeh 6 and taken into hospital in France. The wound is severe gunshot wound in the chest, Private went away with the Elevenths.
Mr. James Adam,' a respected settler at Halcombe, died on Thursday at the age of 78 years (says the Maaawstq Standard). He was at work on Thuwday morning as usual, after a particularly heavy day on Wednesday, whenhe fell back dead in his dray. His two soldier Bons are on their way home from tie front. " •
At yesterday's meeting' of the Education Board, the resignation of Mr, Q. M. Mills, Waihi School, was accepted as from January 31,1918. Mr. G. H. Lyall, headmaster at Kaponga, was granted leave of absence on account of illnen. It was also resolved that Mr. J; W. Jones, Mokoia, be granted leave of absence on account of military service, aa from February 28 next.
Word has been received of the death from wounds received in the fighting in France of Private J. George list, who left with the ambulance Bection of the Reinforcements. Private list was previously in charge of the printing department of the News. He took an active part in St. Mary's Church |woric, being superintendent of the Sunday School and ft member of the vestry. He leaves n wife and child.
The death is reported of Sergeant* Major Charles Clarry, of Ettham. He was only 21 yeara of age, having from Nelson before he reached his 18th year. He had been over three yean at the front, having left with the 7th Reinforcements and gone through most of the fighting at the Dardanelles. Two of Mr. Clarry's sons have returned from the front, being invalided home, and another, the youngest, who went away with the Main Body and went through the' whole of the Dardanelles campaign, is still at the front, having come through un-scathed.—-Argus.

Kerrisk, Kakaramea, father); S. J. Tidswoll (Mrs. M. Tidswejl, Midhirst, wife). In the hospital and progress report: Lance-Corporal A. E. Raynor (Inglewood), reported as still seriously ill; private H. Nicholas, reported as not a severe ease.
