ADJOITRKED MEETING An adjourned meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held last' night. The deputy-mayor (Mr. W. A. Collis) presided, and there were Also present: Cra. J. Clarke, J. W. The streets «uJb-coinnwtt*«-r»porta4 recommending that the borough engiatw be instructed to construct a 6ft. vide trtck adjoining the existing path on. the west side of Ballanee Street for "the use of cyclists; that he also be instructed to improve the corner leading ilitb Ballanee Street from Holdsworthy Road, and tp clean up the existing path •in Oirnell Street.—The report was approved. ' CORRESPONiDKNCE, The electric light and tr«m*ajr manager reported on the proposed extwiiion of the electric lighting systeih to the Ngamotu Beach Society and (lie I>orongh cottages. He suggested that lvhile there were several alternative*, the best method was to continue the mains along the beaeli front, and thus avoid crossing the railway' line, and erecting poles - on. railway property. Mr. Bartley considered that such a course would give a more permanent installation thaj» by „ any other method. Tie estimated cost of'the extension would be £BO to 9d. The report set out that the demands of the beach cottages were developing more quickly than had beerf anticipated. It was suggested that a fixed charge of 3«s per annum (payable in advance) should be made, the council to have the right to fix a meter nnd test consumption at any time if it considered the demands of consumer* exceeded the amount allowed. The amount allowed should permit of the use of electrical Iron, or any small electrical appliance. In view of the fact that the popularity of the beaeh assisted the tramways revenue, the report stated that it would be clearly seen that it would pay to assist the bench enterprise—On the motion of Cr. Clarke, seconded by Cr. Browne, it was decided to authorise tho carrying out of the proposals of tho engineer's report. The Kitzroy School Committee applied for a reduction of watsr ratos.—The engineer recommended that the charge be, reduced to £3 per annum, the arrangement tn be> subject to revision at any time.—The recommendation was approved. > The secretary of the Ngamoiu Beach , Committee applied for an extension of the water main from the terminus of the present main for a distance of 262 feet, to supply.«even new cottage*' in course.of erection.—The engineer reported that tho estimated cost of, extending a oneinch main for the distance required would he £2l % Sd. The report stated that la«t year standpipes were erected at each cottage and charged to the society. —On the motion of Cr. Browne, seconded by Cr. Deare, the application was granted, ' • METAL HAULAGE. The engineer reported further regarding the question of the high cost and the slow method' of the haulage of metal. The report pointed out that the petrol waggon ordered for delivery in November had not left New York, and tho order had been cancelled. Other classes of vehicles had been brought prominently under notice, especially the electricallypropelled lorry. The estimated'cost of nn electric lorry would be £2OOO, complete and ready for use. On the basis of running for 230 days per annum the running cost of tho petrol lorry would be £1229 3s 4d. and the electric lorry .CSW 12s fid, or .-CMS 1(H lOd less than the petrol-driven lorry, the saving being more than equal to the interest and depreciation. The engineer therefore recommended the purchase of an electric. lorry of 5-ton carrying capacity.—lt was decided to authorise the purchase of an electric lorry
