MATINEE AT THE EMPIRE TO-DAY. "THE DUCHESS OF DOUBT.*' At the matinee this afternoon and again to-night Emmy Wehien will be. seen at The Empire in the refreshing Metro comedy drama "The. Duchess of Doubt." The programme will also include the tenth episode of "The Secret of the Submarine," "The Rex Beach Travel Series," a Topical Journal and" the comedy film, "A Bold Bad Knight." COMING MONDAY. Commencing a three-night season on Monday Charles Ray will be featured in the Triangle play," "Tho Clodhopper." .This is Charlie Ray's finest picture to date and shows him in the part of a country worker who goes to New York and there starts a few things moving which become a giddy whirl before the final. There is no doubt about the popularity of this picture, which will surely attract record houses for its three nights' screening, CARLYLE BLACKWELI'S AND JUNE ELVIDGE AT EVERYBODY'S. "THE CRIMSON DOVE.« Two of the fine stars of "The Whip" are Been in "The Crimson Dove," the latest World film release to be screened at Everybody's to-day and to-night. These are June Elvidge and Dion Titheradge. They are supported by Carlyle Blaekwcll in a role which snits'hira well. Thp story is written round the fortunes of a cabaret singer from New York who has a notorious reputation and who has caused the suicide of a young infatuated man/ She meets her hero, and the meeting works a wonderful change in her heart, causing a distaste for the life she has been leading. From then onwards the stpry takes many strange and unexpected turns and is full of strong situations. The hero goes to take a church in a wild country town which is filled with a lawless population, and there he slowly asserts the rule of right. A tremendous scene occurs when the Minister and the baby of whom ho has been accused of being tho father, are locked in the fiercely burning church. The climax comes with a burst of swift action, and the whole drama is a credit to the World f.lndioa. Tho programme also includes the sixth chapter of the "Iron, Claw." THE NAVY LEAGUE PICTURE. "TT IS FOR ENGLAND." The official Navy League super feature "It Is For England" will be prefented at Everybody's theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday evening next and at a special matinee to be held on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. The picture, will mark an epoch in picture production in Great Britain, and. was only rendered possible by the, support of the British Government and the co-operation ot the Naval Authorities who granted nnpredented facilities for the filming' of the Grand Fleet and other 'big naval spectacles, and for the scenes-that were enacted in the British House of Cotamons. "It Is For England" is not only a record of the magnificent work : done by the Grand Fleet in the North Sea and other historic places—it tells a powerful and romantic, story with many tender love episodes, of how the menace : to England in the form of a horde of German spies ras defeated. A German phrase coined find distributed amongst the strikers: "Is Patriotism to 'be the Monopoly oi the Workers?'' will show how far reaching,' .'heir strifo'-spreading went. "It Is For England" is an inspiring story with a big patriotic uplift. Vide Times, Wellington.—lt can safely •ie said that no picture shown has met with such vehement enthusiasm. At one Sime the applause was continuous. Some of the naval scenes were remarkable. It is seldom a picture audience applauds so vociferously as did that, of last night. The tnbleaux are realistic to a. degree. It. is safe to 'say no picture yet produced has made such a strong,appeal to.patriotic feeling.
