A STERNER TONE. RECOGNITION OF WAR POSITION. Received Dec. 14, (1.30 p.m. Sydney, Dec. 14. The recent developments on the war front have had a calming effect upon the referendum turmoil. There iB evidence that the issue is regarded more seriously by the electorates than a short time ago- A sterner tone is adopted by the leading "Yes" advocates, and there is a growing conviction that, conscription or no conscription, greater effort will be required by Australia as part of the Empire before the.end is reached. These arc factors making for a westward drift. Speaking at Geclong, Mr. Hughes reiterated: ' y these proposals are turned down, 1 will do what I am able to see that reinforcement, arc sent overseas, making no exceptions whatever." GREAT COXSCRIPTIOX DEMONSTRATION. Received Dec. IS, l.sO a.m. Sydney, Dec. 14. To-night, n big procession of returned sfidiers and sailors was followed by a monster demonstration in Martin Place of their relations and friends who fa\ui"Yes." The speakers on the several platforms were greeted with much enthusiasm.
