THE THEOSOPICAL SOCIETY.
TH EOSOPHICAL LECTURE. (Contributed). The "Forgiveness of Sins'' was t!ie title of a lecture delivered in the Central Tea Room?, Haw era, on Wednesday night. A brief outline of the hour's lecture is as follows:--To nil students of Theosophy who come .through or from the teachings and beliefs of Christendom there tonics a time when they must face the problem ofreeonciling the law of Karma, or cause and ell'ect., with the teaching of the forgiveness of sins, for as Karma knows neither mercy nor resentment, what becomes of the doctrine of God's mercy, and His forgiveness of our sins? If because there is no resentment in God and therefore no need for forgiveness, what of the death of Christ and Ilis vicarious atonement for us? These questions when once asked by the soul can never be long stifled They will recur ! again and again until answered This l rc-wJ not terrify nor dishearten anyone, ( for "he who reeks shrill find." It is not possible for a soul to ask any question unless the answer to It' is in tie mind of
fiod, and as main's mind is a portion of that great mind, and evolution is but the t>reaking down of limitations and other inhibiting factors which_ prevent him at present from reaching full knowledge, he is bound to get the answer. It is really that answer in the great mind of flod that has ,prompted the question. Knowledge on that line has begun to filter through into his physical brain. To forgive is to cease to feel resentment for wrong done and to remit the penalty. God is lore and is all-wise so can not feel resentment. Therefore cannot cease to feel what He never felt, and He does not remit the penalty. The penalty of sin is old age, disease and death;'and these we still suffer. Christ then has not paid the penalty of our sins Else we should not now be paying it. Christ, the Second Person of the liolv Trinity, is the universal Christ Spirit—the Saviour in the heart, of every man—the Saviour of all souls. Christ', the World Teacher, o-ir older Divine Brother, did die for us, in order to teach us, but not instead of us, for we still die. He conquered death and sin, and He did it as man, to show us that what man has done, man can do, and He told us "He ye perfect as My Father in Heaven is perfect." He would not mock us. He meant itt The theosopMcal equivalent for the forgiveness of sins is opportunity .after opportunity earth-life after earth life, in whie'i to work out our owji salvation. until we have learned to sow only that which we wish to reap, and always we have the help and loving compassion of the Christ who has done it ail as man and before He was Christ, so knows every stsp of the road, every pain and evorv temptation. Learn to work with the law. For you cannot escape it. "God .is not mocked: whatsoever a roan sowetli that also shall he reap.'' Yon must become perfect, for there are no eternally lo»t souls. The coal of humanity is divinity This perfecting cannot be done in. one life It takes many, but the goal is Don't pretend that ,vo» think it kns»becn done for - you when you can see it has not. Be logical, straightforward and do as the Christ tcld you—become perfect He is waiting until you ?an bear to be taught face to face by Him, and no soul can ever be overlooked or forcotten. God make? no
