ALLEGED THEFT OF TRUST MONEY. EX-SOLICITOR COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph.—Prcsi Association. Invereargill, Last Night. H. A. McDonald, until recently practising as a solicitor, was committed for trial for the alleged theft of £136, and for wrongfully converting to his own use .€3OB, both being trust moneys. Accused pleaded not guilty, and reserved his defence. Further charges, involving £1042, will be heard to-morrow week A £IOOO FINE. ' Auckland, Dec. G. In the police court Felix Polerica, a Dalmation gum merchant, was fined £IOOO for suborning a witness, a young Maori girl, in the trial of another Dalmatian, by threatening to kill her if she did not give certain evidence. The alternative was two years' hard labor. A STRIKER PUNISHED. Palmerston N., Last Night. Mr. Kenrick, S.M., gave judgment today in the case in which the inspector of factories proceeded against Phillip King, a flax worker, for being a party to a strike on September 7. King was convicted and fined £lO. SICK AND WOUNDED MEN ARRIVE. Auckland, Last Night. Sick and wounded soldiers arrived here to-day. None are seriously incapacitated. ■ GOVERNMENT HOLIDAYS. Wellington, Last Night. The Government has decided, after consultation with the Public Service Commissioner, that the public offices, not including office or other offices which deal directly with the public, shall close for the Christmas holidays on the evening of Friday, December 21, re-open-ing on January 3.
