DEATH UNDER CHLOROFORM. By Telegraph.—'Press Association. Christehurch, Dec. 3. Dorothy Mary Ruth Silcock, a single woman, aged 20 years, died on Saturday under the influence- of chloroform while having teeth extracted. An inquest was held yesterday and a verdict was returned that sho died of heart failure while under the influence of an anaesthetic. KILLED BY MOTOR-CAR. Auckland, Dec. 9. A girl named Gwen Turnley, aged eight, who was knocked down by a motor-car at Edendale, died four hours later. A taxi driven by a man named William .and carrying one passenger, was travelling on the road when the spring broke and the ear dashed on to the footpath, knocking the girl down. SHIP'S CAPTAIN'S SUICIDE!. Dunedin, Dec. 3. Captain John Scott, late master of the Union Companyfs boat Kamofia, cut his throat this morning and died while on the way to the hospital. He left the ICamona at Lyttelton last Wednesday on sick leave and came to his home at Dunedin.
