Mr. Brownley, district traffic manager at Ohakune, is to succeed Mr. ,). E. Armstrong at Wanganui. Constable O'Neill, of Raliotu, who has been on a holiday visit to the South Island, returned by the mail train las. night.
Mr. C. Carter has received advice that Private T. G. Carter, who was admitted into hospital on October 14th, was transferred to the convalescent depot, France, on October 23rd.
Mr. W. J. Munro, chief clerk in tho New Plymouth Lands Office, who was drawn in the recent ballot, has been classified for home service.
Mrs Sialey has received advice that her son Colin, has been admitted to the military hospital in France, suffering from bronchitis. ' ' "
Mr. Harold Whitham, youngest son of Mrs R. C. Whitham, who has just reached military age, enlisted yesterday, but was classed as medically unfit.
Dr. McDiarmid, medical superintendent of the Taihape Hospital, has been granted six months' leave -of absence in order that he may proceed on active service. Mrs M. J. Shaw (Hawera) has re* oeived further advice that her son, Private L. W. Shaw, was wounded on October 20 in tlie left thigh, a compound fi aoture. and that he has been admitted to hospital in France.
The members of the No. 1 Wellington Military Service Board arrived in NP by mail train last night. The Board comprises Messrs. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. (chairman), Guy Williams and D. Mclaren and Captain Walker (Military repreventative). Major Cox, of Hawera will represent the Taranaki military group at the Board's sittings. A telegram from iPalmerston North reports the death of Donald Rait the well known veterinary surgeon who waa killed by a kick from a horse yesterday morning. Deceased served in Egypt with the veterinary section of New Zealand forces as captain, remaining there about two years. He was well known in Taranaki, having resided in the Waitara district for some years prior to removing to Palmerston North.
The Minister of Defence yesterday received cable advice that the 29th to 34th New Zealand Mounted Rifle Reinforcements are all well at a port of call. A Press Association telegram from Wellington says that the Defence Minister stated.yesterday that the report in circulation to the effect that Genera! Godley, who is in charge of the Army Corps with which the New Zealand Division is incorporated, had been recalled from the front, was incorrect. The mothers of soldiers who wish to order |'The Mothers" silver badge should tfot fail to do so this week, as the patriotic rooms will be closed during December and January. An order for 35 badges has already been sent to Wellington, and if there is a sufficient number ordered at the end of this week another lot will be sent for, and they will be presented to the mothers at the next gathering of the Women's National Reserve. Miss Knndle (the secretary) will be in attendance at the rooms on Wednesday from 3 till 5. The mother must give her son's name and regimental number, or it may be left at the rooms, with her ■own address and Is 6d (the price of the badge). The Technical College Sports to be held in 'Pukekura Park on Thursday next promise to be a great success. Given fine weather a good afternoon's sport should result and the boys will be glad to see as many of the public present as possible. Two prizes are being given in connection with the competition for a decorated sponge sandwich at St. Mary's Guild sale ou Thursday, the 29th inst. Points will be allowed by the judge for cake, icing and decorative effect. Competitors are asked to decorate the top of the "ke only, leaving the sides without icing.
