The Conciliation Commissioner is hi'ur,iiig the demands of guaworkers for an increase in wages and improved conditions of work. So far no progress Ilia been made towards an agreement. The union's representative complained that the Oas Company was obviously determined that the matter shiuld go before the Arbitration Court. The men absolutely refused to agree to work seven shifts a week at ordinary rates. They complained that the conditions nt the Wellington Gasworks were the worst in New Zealand, and the present demands wore the men's last words.
