SEPARATION ALLOWANCES.
THE NEW SCALE. The new scale of separation allowances is'mentioned in District Orders, issued by the Officer Commanding the Wellington Military District. On and after January 1. IUIS, separation allowances are to be paid at' the following rates per day to members of the Foreign Service Section of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force: — s. d. In the case of Lieuts. and 2nd Lieuts. drawing pay of rank only— Wife, or guardian of motherless children 3 .0 (The allowance of a Lieut.'s or 2nd Lieut's wife is 3s. a day, and if the wife is dead, the lis a day' is payable to the guardian of his motherless children. The allowance will not be paid for officers drawing extra professional, adjutant's, or paymaster's pay-) v In the ease of warrant officers,, n.c.o.'s, and men — Wife 3 0 Widowed mother dependent on soldier, or invalid father, who is a widower, and dependent on soldier. If total income, apart from allotment, does not exceed 10s. per week 1 fl Child under 16 years of age .... 1 0 Brothers and sisters under 10 years of age who are dependent on soldier 1 0
All allowances not amended by those shown above will remain the same as at present. For instance, guardians of motherless children of warrant officers, n.c.o.'s, and men are still to receive Is a. day separation allowance. These rates do not apply to men on Homo Service. Some Home Service members of the Forces have been drawing separation allowances under the oIA scale, but they will not receive the increased rates. A new system of payment for Home Service men is under consideration. ' -
