RETURNED MAN'S APPEAL.

-—■ «» i . QUESTION OF DISCHARGE. RE-EXAMINATION TO BE MADE. A retnrned soldier, Reginald B. Cam* eron, railway engineer, Parnell (Mr. Durham), appealed before the Auckland Mi- * Htary Service Board last week for total oxemption, on the ground that he was not a reservist. Cameron stated that he had volunteered and had gone to Samoa in August, 1014. His health had failed, and after spending some time in Samoa he returned to New Zealand. On arrival at Wellington he was asked whether he wished to be discharged, and the officer ; stamped his pay book "Discharged." Appellant considered that he waß discharged on account of ill-health. He had been unwell for eighteen months, having had to cease' work on several occasions. He had been married recently, and had one child. When he was drawn in the ballot he went before the Medical Board, and, although he informed them of his ill-health, he was classed A. He had not, however, produced his doctor's certificate. , The board said the difficulty was that the discharge was marked "at his own request." ; Major Conlan said he considered there was not sufficient evidence for the granting o. c exemption. He suggested a reexamination by a Medical Board other than that which made the original examination.
