ELTHAM.
From Our Own Correspondent. Eltham, \'ov. 2.'i. Some suppliers to a dairy factory in Taranaki received something like a siiock wlion they found the bank was requiring them to sign p.n's to the value of their shares in the company. Probably this may he due to the securing of other buildings for cool storage purposes, or it may mean some guarantee to the bank for advances on milk cheque pending Oovernment grants. The Municipal Pictures appear to be doing very well lately. J>spito so many of the young men having left the place the attendances have been very good. As a ratepayer and Elthamite for many years, I take a pride in seeing the town so up-to-date 111 many matters, hut thero is one point in which Kltham is shockingly behind the times—and that is the reading room. This morning I -vasted five minutes in it, anil found, besides the Daily News, three other Taranaki papers and the Auckland Weekly News, a few stray copies of Hansard, and a bedraggled magazine constituted the sole reading matter. I am sure it is time the reading room was brought under the control of the Borough Council, and I am very certain no ratepayer would object to a small rate to make tlie reading room a pleasure to visit.
