Tlk> school committee wore well supported by the general public in the entertainment held at the Coronation Hall. Toko, last evening. The first portion of the programme was contributed by the scholar?, and proved very acceptable. The second half was provided by adult:., the whole forming a most varied and entertaining programme. The complete list of items by the scholars wore: Pianoforte duet, Mvrtlo and .lovce •Chancy: songs, "Pnzzles"'(infants). KAnf.ac" (.Tas. Butler). "Brtiain's Sons" (juniors), "Absent-Minded Regg*r" (Zeithft Griffiths and Flossie Rutherford); recitatons, ''The Reason Why'' (Elsie Fergusson), "Tlie Old "Maid" (Lucy Jones). "A Farmer's Wife" (.Tas. Rntler); dialogue. 'Troubles of Mrs. Todkins," Linda MeTvor. Tottic FergusSon, Molly Kilpatriek, Lucy .Tone?, jtaivea Mclvov, Stella Lawrence. Myrtle Brown. Hawl Divehall, Maurice lvilpatrick. The adults assisting were Misses Rogers (2) and Mr. Rogers, instrumental items: "Miss V. Rowe. recitation: Miss E. Mihie, and Messrs ,T. S. Rowe. G. T. Walters, and Cole, songs. Mr. W. H. Were, on behalf of the settlers. made a short and appropriate speech in presenting Rifleman L. Leydon with a wristlet watch. Toko has done very well in enlistment, and, unfortunately, there are some who will never return. Mr. Were wished the departing soldier every success and a safe return, Mr. R. Masters, chairman of the Education also added a few words of eulogy at the patriotism of Toko's young men and the loyal manner in w T iiich Took and other parts of the district were assisting in patriotic work. A dance followed, the old "war-liorsc.'' Mr. Max Gemhoefcr, proving an admirable M.C., ■•vhilst, the music was contributed by Mrs. Bianchi, Miss Kelly, and the Rogers trio. The accompanists at the concert were Miss Rogers and Miss Bredon. GENERAL. In the window of the Modern Tailors, Broadway, are placed some of the trophies to be competed for at the A. and P. Association's show next week. Besides other acceptable prizes there are five cups, whilst there is a substantial tea service for some of the classes open to the women. 1 The new manager of the Midhirst Dairy Company, Mr. W. A. Bowman, who comes from the Whareroa factory, is expected to commence his duties next week.
The Tuna factory made a start this morning receiving milk at the new factory. The opening ceremony is expected to lie held next week. Mr. Sketlccwell, lair chairman of tlio Midhirst Company, is chairman of the new.com panv. the suppliers of which arc certainly to he complimented on fin up-to-date premises. and the contractor, .Mr. J. W. Boon. on the expeditions manner in which, he has carried out th" work of erection.
Ladies visiting the Stratford show are nil invited to look through C. E. .Tames' stock of hand-bags. They range from 3/(1 to 65/-.
