BOXING.
HIGH SCHOOL CHAMHONSHIPS. The. annual boxing championship events contested hy the boys of the New Plymouth High School took place yesterday afternoon,, the arrangements being in the hands of Mr. Kidd, while Mr. Wynyiml acted as referee and Mr. McKiimey as timekeeper. Results v wen 33 follows: 1. Under !i stone. S. Hulehen v. 0. Bell—After a lively bout, Hulehen was declared the winner. 2. Under 7 stone. Mitchell v. Malt.—Mitchell',; blows were too strong, and he was declared the winner. 3. Under G stone. Barrell v. Snowdon.—Snowdon was too big for Barrell, who, nevertheless, stood up pluckily. 4. Under 7 stone. Walter v. Ducker.—A very even bout, Walter being declared the winner. 5. Under 8 stone. K. O'Httllornn v. Wyborn.—Things did •:ot warm up until the third round, when O'Halloran was declared the winner. 0. Under 7 stone. Rawson v. Brunette.—A very even bout. After a. strenuous fight Rawson was the winner. 7. Bye. Jackson v. Hunt. 8. By (r. Barrell v. B. Scanlan. / !). Under S stont. Zinsli v. Forbes.—An interesting bout, won by Zinsli. 10. Under 0 stone, L. O'Halloran v. Harrison.—A most lively bout. Things were so even that an extra round had to be bought. Harrison was finally declared winner. 11. Bye. Train v. Lee. 12. Final under 5 stone. B. Scanlan v. S. Hulehen.—Both made it a willing "go," and Seanlan was declared winner. 13. Final under fi stons Snowdon v. Jackson.—A very even and lively bout, Jackson winning. 14. Final" Junior Championship, under lOst 71b. 0. Bayly v. Callander.—One of the most interesting bouts of the day. 18. Final under fl stone. Harrison was to fight Train, but as the former had strained himself, Train sportingly agreed to fight at a later date. 10. Final under 7 stone. Mitchell v. Walter.—Walter was too big for Mitchell, who was rather tired from his tw* former bouts. 20. Final, Senior Championship Over lOst 71bs. McKay v. Tansey.—Tliis was the event, of the day. McKay began by leading, and tilings became warm from'the start, both hitting hard. Tansey landed a hard right, on McKay's head, and Mac'kay replied with a right swing, followed by an effective body blow. lie followed these up with a left and right to Tansey's jaw. Tansey then made the pace, and forced McKay to the ropes. (McKay's round by '% point). In the second round Tansey led with a left to McKay's jaw, to which McKay replied by sending Tansey to the ropes. .Then McKay was forced to the ropes, and clinches followed. McKay got a good straight left to Tansey'.i chest, but Tansey retaliated with a hard left to the jaw. (Tnnsey's round by 1% points). The third round opened by Tansey putting two good blows with his left on McKay's face. McKay then delivered some good hard rights to the side of Tansey's head, Tansey replying with telling lefts. McKay swung a right, but missed, and Tansey landed a pretty left to the head. After a most exciting bout , Tansey was declared the winner.
