RED CROSS COMMITTEE.
At a special meeting of the Red Crosi* Committee held yesterday afternoon, to discuss arrangements for work during the coming year. ,it was unanimously resolved to continue the running of a weekly mart from the beginning of February, the proceeds of which will be devoted to Red Cross purposes. It has bc-n resolved by the members of the Red Cross Committee that they cannot see their way to fall in with Mrs. Burgess' proposal that alternate months <*u. • ing the coming year should be taken by the Women's Patriotic and Red Cross Committees. The members wish Mrs. Hurgc»s to know 'hat they have como to this decision, not from any lack of desire to co-operate amicably with the other patriotic working body, but from the reason that a Red Cross w.eekly mart, having been for over two years a must satisfactory source of revenue to the society, they do not feel justified in giving it up. The following resolution was then carried: "That this committee, recognising the great need for united action in local effort at this vital stage of the war, and also in view of the phenomenal success attending the last year's effort, when the sum of nearly £4OOO was received for Red Cross and patriotic ' purposes, greatly regrets the inability of the Mayoress and her patriotic committee to continue the present most useful arrangement.
