PERSONAL.

Captain J. B. Hine, M.P., has forwarded a cable message to Mrs. Hine, stating that he is now in a hospital at Gaza, and progressing favorably. Councillor J, Wakehain, who is retiring from the Hutt County Council, after 33 years' continuous service, was presented at the last meeting of the council by his fellow members and the staff with a set of carvers. The Base Records Office Ims received advice that the Military Medal haR been awarded to Corporal ft. W. Michael, a New Zealander attached to the 19th Battalion of the London regiment. A telegram from Invercargill states that Mr. J. R. Triggs, who was conciliation commissioner for Canterbury and Otago, died somewhat suddenly at 4 p.m. yesterday. He was taken ill at the Grand Hotel the previous evening.

Mrs. C. M. Anderson, Matapu (late of Auroa) has received word from the Minister of Defence that her son, Private Herbert J. L. Anderson, is reported missing, believed killed, on October 4. Mrs. Anderson has received telegrams expressing the sympathy of the King and Queen from the Governor-General.

Mr. D. M. Findlay, barrister and solicitor, of Wellington, has been appointed chairman of the Third Wellington Military Service Board, in place of Colonel W. H. S. Moorhouse, who has been compelled to resign on account of continued ill-health. The board will now consist of Messrs D. M. Findlay (chairman), M. Mack (secretary Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants), and A. O'L. Considine, settler, of Martinborongb, Wairarapa.

Mrs. Em Elliott, of Cover street, has received advice that her nephew, Corporal W. A. Marshall,, of the 3rd Battalion of the Australian Forces, has been awarded the D.C.M. for acts of gallantry and devotion to duty in the field. The Australian Gazette, in recording the decoration, says Corporal Marshall handled his machine-gun with great skilllan4 succeeded in silencing the enemy's fire He has at all times set a splendid example of courage and initiative. i Tuesday's casualty list contains the names of the following Taranaki men: [Previously reported wounded, now reported wounded and missing, Private 1,.
