ALLEGED BETTING FRAUDS Wellington, Last Night The hearing of the case in which Fraser, Fitzgerald and McWilliam ftre charged with attempting to defraud certain bookmakers, was continued to-day. The case for the Crpwh has concluded, and the defence has opened. 'Fraaer gave evidence, claiming that the telegrams were not irregular, that he did Ant hear the results of the race till about noon, and that the reason why tie did not wl Fitzgerald the name of the horse was because the dividend might be reduced. He backed San Sebastian purely on his own judgment. Fitzgerald also gave evidence that he was not convinced there was anything wrong with the telegrams, and, if anything was wrong with them, he was not a party to it. The hearing wm adjourned. REWARD FOR BRAVER?. Wellington, Last Night, Sergeant-Major Holmes tfas presented to-night with the Royal humane Society's bronze medallion and certificate for jumping from a fast moving train, on June 26, to rescue Private Lake, whe had fallen from the platform and had his leg severed by the wheels of the train. By rendering first Sid promptly, he saved Lake's life.
