AWAKTNO. (From Our Own Corespondent]. On November 2 the ladies of the Awakino branch of the Victoria League, assisted by other patriotic residents of the district held a jumble sale of work, and various commodities collected and donated, for the benefit of the Red Cross and Y.M.C.A. Funds, and for the purpose of buying material for "sewing into shirts for soldiers." The affair was enthusiastically Worked up as usual in Awakino, and resulted in £Bfi being collected. The excellent quality of some of the work on sale was the cause of much comment, and reflected great credit on the generous makers of the various articles. Some of the fancy goods and beautifully made garments disposed of to bachelors must have caused great bewilderment to the buyers. Various live and dead" stock, including descendants of Captain Cook, were disposed of at great profit, and amid huge merriment, during the evening, between the dancing. The capable and energetic.; ladies who dispensed afternoon tea and supper deserve the highest praise for the manner in which they catered for a hungry and thirsty public. The result of the raffle is as under: Friesian calf, donated by Mr. D. Bkck, won by Mr. Wanklin. Fat sheep, donated by Mr. J. McNeill, won by Mr. Bradbury. Cushion, donated 'by Mrs. Wanklin, won by Miss Woodruff. Art work, donated by Miss Drader, won by Mr. J. Delvers. KAPUNI. (From Our Own Correspondent). The Kapuni Hall was again packed with a large number of people, including | visitors from all round, to .participate in the patriotic social liefd in aid of the Kapuni Guild. The staffs at the two factories, with their suppliers, put in hard work to make the whole affair a success. Hink's orchestra had been engaged from Hawera (piano, cornet and bells), so that the music was a treat, extras being played by Trooper A. Poole (Auroa), Mrs. Calder and Misses .Spiers. Cateley and Gardiner. The waltzing competition, which created much interest, was won by Mr. 0. Northcott ani Miss Northcott (Auroa). This was judged by voting. The Kapuni ladies supplied an excellent sit-down supper,
