INGLEWOOD.
By Our Travelling Reporter
Inglewood, Nov. 12. .The complete returns for the "Scottish Day" held Oicre recently are now available. The total receipts'were £203 the main takings being: Concert £7O, marquee £27, dancing stage £4O, other sums bringing the total to the amount stated. The expenses were £32 15s 3d, leaving a net profit of £l7O 14s Sd. Thi s is a very satisfactory result, and secretary J. Johnston and his Committee have reason to be proud of the support and backing up of their efforts. Considering the other calls made during the same period, Inglewood has done very well. The fire brigade authorities were busy this evening experimenting with the fire bell. Kvidently Inglewood does not desire to be caught napping in these days of outbreaks. Captain Ooldwell informs ,me that, the most satisfactory way to ensure the best alarm is to I'.nve the bell rung by water-power. He states that Klt.bam and Hawera have adopted this method and the tone is much better. Probably ih fi "inglewood Council will place llieir brigade on similar lines, as the difference between a full and feeble alarm means a great deal to fire-fighters.
