TECHNICAL COLLEGE STEEPLECHASE.

AX INTERESTING CONTEST.

Forty-two boys of the New Plymouth Technical College took part 111 a steeplechase on Monday. The course, which wos over three miles, was from the College over Marsland Hill, down the other side to the Hospital gates, along' Frankley road, bearing up hill to the right, A short distance past tile tannery the road was left and after a steep descent the stream was forded. A stiff climb brought competitors to the main road again, then more cross country, negotiat,-. ing several gates and fences, Carrington road, Vogeltown, to top end of Pukekura Park, a winding course through the Park, and once round the "Rco. to tile finishing post. The first batch of boys (six min. start) started at 2.33. followed at intervals of lmin by others as handicapped. Scratdh men 2.3!). Results:—(l) P. Lister (Sin start), time taken lSmin—a good run: (2) fi. Sole (fimin start), (the smallest boy in the. college); (3) E. White (omin start); (4) E. Jury (3min start); (a) Beggs (o min start); (li) ]). George (3min start); (7) N. Brookes (6min start). One minute between 2 and 7. Only six boys failed to complete the course. Of the scratch inen F. Bailey arrived first at the winning post; a fine run, completing the course in 171 minutes, 2nd, H. Feakins 18 l-4min., 3rd, W. Penman, 18|min., 4th, R. Attrill, lOmin. Keen interest was shown in the contest. The start was witnessed by the girls of the College and also the finish, over which they were very enthusiastic.
