CROQUET.
The frvmal opening of the Fitzroy Croquet Club took place on Saturday afternoon under enjoyable conditions. There was a good attendance and the lawn was in capital order, thanks to the unremitting care and attention bestowed upon it by Mr. 'P. Jury. In a brief speech the president of the Fitzroy Bowling and Croquet Club (Mr. S. Smith) formally declared the lawn open for the season and wished the ladies an enjoyable time. Ueferrin"'to the condition of the areen. Mr. Smith said that a southern club had instituted a crowning ceremony, and if such a ceremony had been in vogue at Fitzroy. Mr. -Tury would have well deserved the honor of a crown. Mrs. Sole then,started a ball to the hoops, and the lawn was declared open amid cheers.
