BOWLING.

OPENING OF FITZROY GREEN. The postponed opening of the Fitwoy Bowling Club's green on Saturday took place in brilliant weather, though the high westerly wind made play a trifle difficult. The green was in splendid condition, and won the praise of all the visiting bowlers. There was a large attendance of visitors, and bowlers weh in sufficient force to fill five rinks, with a few over at the sixth rink.

The president (Mr. S. Smith) warmly welcomed the visitors, especially the ladies. He mentioned that- the good condition of the green was due entirely to the voluntary aid of the members, and especially to the preen warden, Mr. Price, whose services he highly eulogised, as well as those of Mr. P. Jury, the warden of the croquet lawn, which had been used as a winter green. He then presented the prizes won last season, the singles championship cup to Mr. S. Rennell. and the trophy for the runner up to himself, i a trophy for the previous year going to Mr. Healy. The president concluded bywishing the members an enjoyable and successful season. After representative.* of several of the visiting clubs had re. sponded and expressed congratulations on the perfect state of the green. Mrs Smith, by request, threw the jack, and the president formally declared the green open for the season. The. usual match between the president's and vice-president's teams follow, ed. A most pleasant afternoon's play resulted, enhanced by the afternoon tea, which was all that could be desired.
