PERSONAL.

| Mr. C W. Rogers nas been elected a member of the Opunake Town Board in succession to the late Mr. W. C. Dudley, chairman of the Board. Mr. J. Young (Oaonui) and Mr. W. R. Wright (Rahotu) have been nominated for seats on the New Plymouth Hospital Board to represent Egmont county. Captain R. H. Balsom. Mangorci, has received word that his son, Charles, was wounded in the left buttock and admitted to hospital on October 12. This is Private Balsom's second wound.

Mr. T. P. Beck, of New Plymouth, has received word that his son, William, who was wounded on October 11, has been transferred to the New Zealand General Hospital, at Brockcnhurst, suffering from gunshot wound in the left leg, and a fracture of the left arm.

Hon. Sir James Alien, Minister of Defence, will visit New Plymouth on Thursday, and will attend the High School sports, at which he will present the shields and trophies won by the school in the Imperial challenge shield competitions.

A quiet, but pretty, wedding was celebrated at the Bell Block Church, on Thursday last,, when Miss Effie Johns was married to Mr. John Heskett. The Ecv. H. A. Fa veil officiated, and the bride was given away by her uncle, Mr. C. Honeyfield. Miss' Winnie Honeyfield attended as bridesmaid, and Mr. Oscar Johns acted as best man. Relatives and friends were afterwards entertained at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E. Johns.

Saturday's casualty list contains only one Taranaki name, Lance-Corporal D. H. Briggs (D. H. Briggs, Kaponga, father). The hospital report showa that Private A. B. Booker, Eltham, is dangerously ill, and Privates J. Moffett, Hawcra, and F. H. Pennington, Eltham, are still seriously ill. Privates K. S. Henry, Inglewood, and J. C. Sumner, New Plymouth, have been removed from the seriously ill list. Mr. W. A. Clinton returned to New Plymouth towards the end of last month with a fine service record. He sailed with the 6th Reinforcements and saw service at Qallipoli till he was wounded and invalided back to New Zealand. After a respite of some months he left again with the 18th Reinforcements, and after considerable fighting in France was invalided to England, where he worked for a time in the High Commissioner's office. The family of Mrs. A. Boswell, of Buller Street, one of the oldest residents of New Plymouth, has a great record in the present fight. No fewer than sixteen of her grandsons and three great grandsons have served their country. Four of the former, namely, Private Edgar and Lance-Corporal H. A. Old ('Kaimata), Private Leslie James and Private Leo. Boswell, of New Plymouth, have made the supreme sacrifice, whilst several others have been wounded. Other grandsons are eligible for service in the Second Division.

Mr Coutts, of Tariki, received the sad news on Ist instant that his son, LahceCorporal Wymond Coutts, had died of wounds received in the recent big offensive. Lance-Corporal Coutts was educated at the Tariki School, and at the Stratford High Schodl, where he made good progress and enjoyed well deserved popularity. For some time he was in the service of the Railway Department, but just prior to the outbreak of war he resigned that position to take over the. management of his father's farm. After about 12 months' experience in his new work he sailed with the lOtli Reinforcements, and went through the fierce and heavy fighting at the Somme and Messines unharmed,
