THE PRINCIPAL AWARDS.
Palmerston North, Nov. 1. Among the thoroughbreds on the ground was that well-known sire of good sprinters, All Red. The sire of Miss de Val, Tip Up, and others was unopposed in this class, and he was awarded a first. Splash, a daughter of San Fran, with a foal by Boniform, was the best of the thoroughbred mares shown, In the hunting ring the Hastings horse Mickey Free added another victory to hi 3 fine record, and also won as a weight-carrying hack. W. Howard Booth's Lonely, another good winner, also scored a further success. The beef breed competitions have brought out some magnificent beasts. The Shornborn awards are fairly well distributed, but in the Hereford division, E. Short scooped the pool. The Ayrshlres shown were excellent, and the most successful stud exhibiting waa the Porirua Mental Hospital. The principal awards are as under:— HORSES STALLIONS AND THOROUGHBREDS. In Southdowns, all the firsts for Southdowns in the wool were awarded to James Knight, except tlwit for ram under 30 months, which went to W. Richmond.
In the classes for shorn Southdowns, James Knight again scored all the firsts but one, and that exception fell to W. (Howard Booth.
In the class for ewe IS months in fnt sheep James M'Kelvie scored eight firsts and D. Collis scored one first.
FAT LAMBS, In the only competition for fat lambs, A. J. A. Mitchell was first and D, Collis second and third. PIGS BERKSHIRE.
In Berkahires, the awards were divided between Mr'.. J. Wall, E. J. Rogers, and the Porirna Mental Hospital. Four firsts fell to Mr. S. Wall, two to the Porirua institution, and one to Mr. Rogers. TAMWORTH. ■ The Tamworth prizes fell to E. J. Rodgers (two), J. Wall (three), and X. P. Neilsen (one). YORKSHIRES.
Porirua Mental Hospital won all the Yorkshire firsts except one, which went to F. W. Fitzpatrick. LARGE BLACK. E. J. Rodgers was the only exhibitor of large black .'pigs, and' first were awarded throughout.
