MR. WEBB NOT TH"E ONLY MINING REPRESENTATIVE. Wellington, Yesterday. Abatement made by Mr. Frank (Reed 1 , Chief Inspector of Mines, at the hearing •iS 16 a PP ea * for the exemption from military service of Mr. P. 0. Webb M# to tlie effect that Mr. Webb had done niotys than other members of Parliament in the interests of mining, was mentioned in the House of Representative* yesterday, I' Mr. ,T. W. Rhodes, who represents the I Quartz-mining district of Thames, asked the Minister of Mines to inquire whether Mr. need was correctly reported, and, if so, to ask him to justify his statement. It was a direct reflection of members generally, and especially oa mombers of the Mines Committee. The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald said there wore some eight men in Parliament representing mining districts, and he thought every Minister realised as well as he did that they were all specially keen on mining matters, Mr. Webb was as keen as any of them, but lie would specialise or individualise any member of Parliament. (Hear, hear.) He would find out whether Mr. Reed lfad made a statement as reported. Mr. Nosworthy; Will the Minister ask that this statement be withdrawn?
