THE ANCHOR OF THE ALLIES. WHAT THE NAVY HAS DONE. BIUTiSH PREMIER'S TESTIMONY. THE DOMINIONS PRAISED. Reuter Service. Received Oct. 31, 12.55 a.m. London, Oct. 30. In the House of Commons, Mr. Lloyd George, in moving a resolution of thanks to the forces (as cabled on 25th), said the deeds whereto the resolution referred tvon the admiration and gratitude of every subject of the 'King. No words were needed to commend the acceptance of the resolution. The navy was the anchor of the Allies' cause. If it lost its hold the hope of the Allies would be shattered. If the navy had been defeated, even a year ago, our armies in France, Mesopotamia, Salonika, and Egypt would have languished and finally vanished for lack of support in men and material.
During the war the navy had transported 13,000,000 men, 2,000,000 horses, 25.000.f100 tons of explosives and supplies, also 51,000,000 tons of cal and oil fuel for the fleet and armies and the needs of the Allies. Out of these 13,000,000 men only 3300 had been lost, of whom only 2700 were lost through the action of the enemy. That was apart from the prodigious quantity of food and other material, totalling 130 000,000 tons, transported by ships. Referring to the Dominions'" part in the war, Mr. Lloyd George said they had contributed between 700,000 and 800,000 men. He emphasised how well they fought. ,
