"OUR DAY." (From Our Own Correspondent). lEltham, Oct. J3O. It is to alleviate the awful suffering caused by battles that the British Red Cross Society sets out to accomplish. And what a tremendous organisation it is! Armies and armies of assistants, both male and female; thousands of motor ambulance cars; dozens of hospital ships and motor launches; thousands, of beds; millions of articles of clothing, bedding, and furniture sent abroad; hundreds of thousands of parcels of food and clothing forwarded to British prisoners in enemy countries; thousands of surgeons and trained nurses employed. £1,600,000 has been spent on surgical dressings and equipment alone. Can we decline to assist such a work? No! Emphatically No! "Our Day" at Eltham is next Saturday, November 3. Let us feel that it is a grand privilege to assits. GENERAL. There are many Eltham and Rawhitiroa friends who will regret that Private E. McLaughlin has died of sickness. He, is the second son of this well-known family who has gonc*under, Jack having been killed in action some months ago. A third boy, Hughic, has been wounded. There is now on view in Mr. Wilkinson's window several fine military photographs of trench and other life! These have been forwarded to Mr. W. D. Ross, lion, secretary 0 f the Overseas Club, who also possesses literature which he will gladly distribute to those caring to inquite for same. '
