(From Our Own Correspondent). Inglewood, Oct. 2(1. The Borough Council is making arrangements for the official opening of the dew gravel pit. The ceremony is to take place on Thursday afternoon next, and the mayors of adjoining boroughs us far south as Patea and nortli to New Plymouth and Waitaru. as well as exmayors and ex-councillors, and the public generally, have been invited. The pit has been stripped to an extent which will supply the wants of the borough for the next six l years, with as fair a quality of stone as could be desired, and it is very probable that it will be put on the market as well, as with the up-to-date plant in U9e it can be marketed at a very reasonable rate.

Mr. Esse has just forwarded £5 Bs to the Overseas Club tobacco fund, for the New Zealand boys. Local friends will regret to hear of Hip death of David Brown, who has been killed in action. The late David Brown was well and favorably known in the district, and his parents have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. News has also been received that Walter Matthews has been slightly gassed.

The balance-sheet of the Scottish Society Day (just come to hand) shows that the receipts totalled £203 fls lid, and the expenses £32 15s 3d. the largest item being £ll 13s for car hire and expenses of singers and dancers., The net proceeds amount to £l7O 14s Sd. The entertainment was most interesting throughout and thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Mr. Anderson devotes one fourth of his proceeds to the local school funds.
