ELTHAM.

CONCERT AT MANGATOKI. Elthani, Oct. 27. There was a good attendance of the public at the concert and dance held at the Mungatoki Hall last night, in aid of the school funds, ami it is expected a sum of about £l7 will be secured. A lengthy programme was submitted, nongs being contributed by Mesdames Busby and Hemingway, Miss Cattley, Mr. G. H. Buckeridge and Master Buckeridge, whilst recitations were contributed by Mr. E. Parrott and Master Irwin. The comic element loomed largely on thd programme, and was in the capable hands of Messrs, A. H. Andrews, F. Silver and F. Gardiner. Action songs by the school children added further variety 1 to a programme that was greatly enjoyed by all present. The accompaniments were played by Mesdames Busby and Buckeridge, Messrs Gardiner and Astbury. In a few happily chosen words Mr. Astbury, chairman of the school committee, thanked the performers for assisting, and the public for attending in such large numbers. The danee that followed was also a big success. GENERAL. J One. of our local "characters" gave it out that his son had paid the supreme penalty at the front, and -the lad'% mother was bewildered with the news," which, fortunately, turns out to be incorrect. One paper published the news, believing it to be authentic.
