Kercnsky's health has greatly improved. EVACUATING KRONSTADT. TREACHERY IN THE ISLANDS. Petrograd, Oct. 25, The evacuation of Kronstadt by civilians has .begun. The Russian fleet at Helsingfors is in complete readiness and Is guarding the entrance to the Gulf of Finland. A sailors' delegate, sent by the Fleet Committee of the Baltic Islands to watch the military operations, who was taken prisoner, escaped and reports that some of the Russian troops are showing a deplorable attitude, and that the Germans are being aided by espionage, which is rampant in tin- islands, the inhabitants signalling by spreading sheets 'to guido Wurman airmen.

REPORTED MASSACRE OP GERMANS London, Oct. 25. Tlie Petroprad correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says that, according to Russian newspapers, the town of Wenden was the scone of a ghastly massacre of Germans during the Russian retreat from Riga. "While the last detachments were traversing the town, the rumor spread that Cerraan residents were firing at and bombing the troops from windows, whereupon the rioters, mostly civilians, systematically attacked the German houses and exterminated every German, not sparing women or children. The rabble committed every imaginable outrage in the town. During "the orgies it was under a heavy .bombardment by the Germans on one hand and the Russians on the other. The Germans used gas shells, producing poisonous fumes which killed both the .plunderers and the intended victims. THE ENEMY'S RETREAT. London, Oct. 25. A wireless Russian official message says: The enemy retired 15 miles in the Riga region near the Pskov high road and the Little Gagel. Our vanguards in some sectors lost touch with the retiring Germans. The enemy destroyed all buildings, roads, and bridges during his retreat. We repelled the enemy's attempts to effect a. landing at Tomba, sou tibward of Werda.
