EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST. By Telegraph.—'Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. . An inquest on the body of an infant found in a suit case in a chemist's shop, i>n September 22, in connection with which a single young woman, Mary Walter, is charged with murder, was held to-day. The evidence 'showed that the girl, who had been in domestic service in Dunedin, went home to Lawrence on September 17. returning to Dunedin on September 22, with her mother, and bringing a suit ease with her. The mother was unaware of the birth of the child until the daughter had been visited by a doctor on September 22. Medical evidence was given to the effect that death was due to asphyxia, and that with the exeriiise of ordinary care, the child would have lived. The depositions of the inquest, held on May 29, 1916, on the body of a child of the same woman, were put in. A verdict that death was due to asphyxia was returned.
