STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) [All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.] MOIR-WILSON WEDDING. Stratford, Oct, 15. The popularity of the bride, Miss H. M. \Vi!son, was demonstrated at the wedding at Holy Trinity Church this morning. The bridegroom was the Rev. G. K Moir, of the Bay of Islands, and the Key C. Howard officiated. The church, which had been prettily decorated bv lady friends of the bride, was crowded by well-wishers of the couple. Miss Black presided at the organ and plaved tiie wedding march, whilst the choir also mustered in strong force. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a proara Indian s ilk dress, with handsome Indian lace over-dress. She also wore a veil and orange blossoms. The bridesmaid (Miss Ella Jones, of Timaru) wore a cream silk jumper frock and heliotrope fi'.lk hat, and carried a heliotrope bouquet. The Rev. E. L. Harvie. of Cnglewood, was best man. The bridegroom presented the bridesmaid with a gold brooch. After the ceremony the contracting couple, their parents, and a few intimate friendSj adjourned to Mr. Wilson's premises, where several toasts etc., were honored. The happy "couple left shortly afterwards for New Plymouth, en route for their new home in the sunny north. GENERAL. The borough engineer, Mr. Sullivan, has returned from his visit to Wellington. He was much impressed with the fine concrete roads at Wellington. The retailers of Stratford are petitioning the Council to close their premises at Vi (noon), instead of 12.30 as at present, on Thursdays. Good progress is* being made with the Rugby Road new factory. The architects are Messrs Percival and Messenger, of Inglewood. The bottom portion of the building i s in concrete and then wood upwards. The Tuna Road factory is also allowing substantial progress, the contractor being Mr. ißoon. The schedule finally approved by the Stratford A. and P. Association displays a distinct advance on previous years. Entries for the One-day Champion But-ter-fat Competition close on November 1, and intending competitors in this class should act promptly. General entries close on Saturday, November 17. Schedules will be available this week on application to the secretary.

The residents of Douglas mustered in full force at the social held on Friday |n honor of Private Beere. Mr. E. Walter, in a neat and appropriate speech, presented their guest with a wristlet watch, accompanied by the best wishes for a safe voyage and return. Two other soldiers, Privates Jacobson (Tututawa) and Jeff (TokoJ, were also present. ,

Mr. C. E. James has just opened up some very appropriate and beautiful Christmas cards for sending to soldiers at the front, and friends in the Home Land. A very large and varied assortment is available but already a steady demand has set in, so those on the lookout for seasonable gifts of this description should lose no time in inspecting Mr. James' stock.
