SEAMAN SENTENCED FOR DESERTION. Australian-N.2;. Cable Association. Melbourne, Oct 10. Kris Jensen, the greaser who deserted the Port Kembla just before it sailed from Melbourne, has been sentenced to j three months' imprisonment, TOTAL ENLISTMENTS THIS YEAR. Melbourne, Oct. 10. The total enlistments in the Commonwealth since the beginning of the year are 39,222. AREA UNDER WHEAT. ' Sydney, Oct. 10. The official estimate shows that the area under wheat in the State is 3,812,500 acres, a decrease of 697,692 acres compared with last year. The principal reasons for the decrease are the labor shortage and the higher prices ruling for sheep and wool having 1 caused many farmers to abandon wheat for sheep. VICTORIAN DEFICIT. Melbourne, Oct. 10. The State Budget shows that the year's revenue is £11,461,030. which is £39,000 less than the expenditure. No new taxation is proposed.
