ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Eltham, Oct. 10. The recently-formed Eltham branch of the School Committpes' Association met at the Foresters' Hall last evening. The president (Mr. A. H. Andrews) was in the chair, while other delegates were Messrs D. L. Astbury (Mangatoki), E. S. Bennett (Finnerty road). J, Bootten (Mata), A. Boddie (Mangamingi), J. H. Bleakley (Rawhitiroa), H. Shaw (Rotokau), and E.G. Paaps (secretary). The principal business was the receiving of Mr. T. A. Bocock, secretary of the Stratford Association, who, after apologising for the non-attendance of Messrs F. J. McDonald and C. H. Lawn, congratulated the Eltham branch on its establishment, and outlined the objects aimed at by forming committees into associations, stressing the point that by this unity of action they would probably receive more consideration and assistance from the Education Department. He paid a high tribute to the personnel of the Taranaki Education Board, and assured delegates the board members were very keen to push forward educational matters, and the association would probably be of assistance to the board in bringing these claims before the Department. At the close of Mr. Boeoek's remarks he answered numerous questions, and was accorded a vote of thanks.
At the Magistrate's Court sitting this afternoon, before Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., a settler named Hurleyman, for allowing stock to wander on the county roads, was fined 5s and costs. The hearing of a claim for £2B for repairs to a motor car, brought by A. R. Cronin against T. W. Reilly, took up a few hours.
