STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) [All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. 11, J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.] GENERAL. Stratford, Oct. 10. Several bowling enthusiasts left for Hawera this afternoon, to participate in the opening of the Hawera Club's green to-day. The Stratford green will be opened next week. In connection with the report of the Hospital Board this morning, referring to the necessity for improvements to the sanitary conditions at the Toko School. Mr. Max Gernhoefer (chairman of the committee) informs me that the delay was occasioned through inability, to secure the necessary labor. Since the inspector of health had been there the committee had formed a working bee, and fixed up the details necessary themselves, so that now there is no need'oi apprehension on the part of parents, re- 4 garding sanitary matters. Considerable interest is being taken in the farewell social to be held in the Toko Coronation Hall to-morrow (Thursday) evening. Rifleman G. Morrison is a well-known Toko identity, and his friends are determined to give him a royal farewell. Mr. C. E. James has just opened up some very appropriate and beautiful Christmas cards for sending to soldiers at the front, and friends in the Home Land. A very large and varied assortment is available but already a steady demand has set in, so those on the lookout for seasonable gifts of this description should lose no time in inspecting Mr. James' stock.
