It is officially announced there arc two German armed raiders in the South Pacific, and that an Entente warship is searching for them. The Xflvy Department. h:',- received a report from Hie commander at Tutnila Tshuul tliat the master of an American schooner arrived there with three men from Xopeha fsland. The master states that the Seaddlcr captured his vessel on July 17, and also captured two American schooners, the A. 1!. Johnson and .Uaniila. The Seaddlcr was stranded and abandoned, during August, the rifles and supplies being transferred to a motor sloop. The Seaddlcr's crew on September 9 captured the Lutece from Tahiti. The. Germans left 27 whites and 17' natives from the Lutece marooned oi; Xopeha Island, where the men are in great need of food and water. Every effort is being made to relieve them. It is stated that one victim of the raiders was the schooner Jiosedalc from Sydney. Tt is believed the Wairuna was also among the victims. INTERNED 9UP.MARIXK ESCAPES. Received Oct. 8, 8.15 p.m. Madrid, Oct. . 7. The submarine U2D4, interned at Clldiz on September 10, escaped without munitions. The general in chief at the arsenal and other responsible officials have been dismissed. WAR IXSCTAXCE RATES. Washington, Oct. 7. The War Insurance Rureati has redueed rates 23 per cent., based on reports that the U boat campaign is not largely successful and that there are indications that the new devices will further reduce the ravages. THE CAPTURED OKR.MAX SHIPS. The Hague, Oct. 7. Official: IfyVlland has agreed, under protest, to refer to the liritish f'rino Court the question of Britain's capture of four German steamers on.the Dutch coast. Britain lias tendered an apology for shelling three stranded steamers. Holland has asked for an indemnity.
