ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
[CRUSHED BY RAILWAY CARRIAGES I By Telegraph.—Press Association, Dunedin, Last Night. A man named James Douglas, from Athol, arrived at Dunedin by the south express, on Saturday, and was seen to leave the platform. About 7.40 p.m. he was found under the wheels of carriages being shunted into position on the'fourth line of rails from the platform. He was removed to the hospital, where his left leg, which was badly smashed below the knee, was amputated. His condition la, critical. THREE MEN. PROtKED. Dunedin Last Night. A party of men, namely LedgerwooK (aged 4S, Donald McDonald, ; DougaU Paterson, Peter Sutherland and Hamilton, left the city yesterday in a launch, to spend the week end at crib at Maori Kack. When within 30 yards of the jetty, they left the launch and got into a dingey, which apparently foundered, and three of the men—Ledgerwood, Hamilton and Sutherland—were drowned. The bodies of the two latter were recovered. McDonald and Paterson <swam ashore.
