WITIORA CHAMPIONSHIP WOX BY ELLIOTT. The final for the championship waa played on Thursday and proved! a very close contest, Elliott winning on the 19th hole. The first round ended with Elliott 2 up, and give and take play resulted till the position was Elliott 4 up and 4 to play. Mackay won the next hole, leaving him one down. Both got excellent drives at the next hole, Mackay just securing the hole, and making them all square. At the "coffin" Mackay over-drove the green, and Elliott was short but recovered with his second. Mackay lay "dead" with his second and won the hole —1 up and Ito play. Btath sliced their drives at the last hole and got into difficulties, Elliott, however, recovering. Mackay, whose ball was half buried, took two shots to get it cut, Elliott winning the hole, and Mackay's putt for a half stopping at f he edge of the hole. ■ Leaving them all square an extra hole was played; both had good drives; Mackay had the longer putt and missed; Elliott' holed his putt and won the championship.
