BOWLING.

OPENING DAY AT WAITARA. Favored by fine weather after the heavy downpour on Wednesday night, there was a large attendance on the Waitara green yesterday, when the opening match of the season was played between the president's and vice-president's teams, representatives from the Fitzroy. Inglewood and New Plymouth Clubs being present. The green was in capital order, and an enjoyable afternoon's play resulted in a win for the vice-president, by 91 to 81 points. The usual felicitations were expressed, and the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea, in thaiprofuse hospitality for which Waitara is deservedly noted. Following are the scores, the vice-president's teams being mentioned first in each case: Campbell, L. Sampson. J. Eattenbury (s) 24 v. Nosworthy, Calder, P. Lealand (s) 17. ■ Harrison, Crombie, Keniday, S. Smith (s) 31 v. S. Hooper, Huse, Beadle, W Phillips (s) 10. J. Kempsell, Young, W. Healy, F. Jackson (s) 18 v. 0. Cook, W. Sampson, J. Allen, H. iPrice (s) 20 A. Avery. Were, J. Bennett, F. Spurdle (s) 18 v. Foreman, Davidson, P. .Jury, Bent (a) 22.
