UTILISATION OF DEER AND GOAT SKINS SUGGESTED. ©unedin, October 2. Acting on the suggestion of a member the Otago Acclimatisation Society, in view of the scarcity of leather, lias decided to have six red deer shot, and the skins treated commercially, as an experiment. The deer will be taken from the Hawea forest. Nelson. October 2. With reference to treating red deer skins for leather, Sir. F. Grcenslade, a local tanner in a large way of business, suggests that the better plan would bo to treat goat skins, thousands of which, are procurable. These would make far more useful leather than deer skins. He also asks why all pig skins should not be utilised.
